Villa in Görlitz

Staircase window for one of the magnificent town houses

Görlitz, a city with a rich history and impressive architecture. With its well-preserved medieval buildings, baroque churches and magnificent town houses, Görlitz is an architectural jewel. The old town exudes a nostalgic charm and has often served as a backdrop for film productions.

For one of the magnificent villas from the Wilhelminian era, we produced new stained-glass in the main stairwell and restored and reconstructed the historic stairwell windows for the light well.

The building was constructed in the neo-baroque style. In keeping with this design principle, the windows in the main stairwell were designed with neo-baroque decorative elements, with leaf volutes and circular shapes.

The following measures were carried out:

  1. A staircase window consists of a total of 10-12 leaded glass panes.
  2. This stained-glass consists of approx. 350 - 500 individually cut pieces of glass.
  3. The glass cuttings are joined together to form lead glazing with H-lead profiles.
  4. The joints are soldered with solder.
  5. The lead glazing is cemented with putty and cleaned.
  6. The individual panels were then inserted into the stairwell windows.

Glass used: Genuine table cathedral glass from the Lamberts glassworks in Waldsassen and opalescent glass. Some of the stained-glass in the windows facing the light well was still present and was carefully restored. Matching stained-glass was reconstructed for the missing centre panels.
